Welcome to Oakes College Cambridge

The Oakes College Cambridge formerly known as Netherhall Sixth Form Centre, has a long tradition of teaching A-level and Applied course education and supporting young people. The college builds on these great foundations and embraces a new role as the Sixth Form of the Anglian Learning Trust , providing continuity of high quality education both for students who have progressed through trust schools and for those adding the richness and diversity from within the educational landscape of Cambridgeshire.

Why Choose Oakes?
Small class sizes – on average we have 14 students to a class. This gives students a great environment to learn, meet friends, get one-to-one help from teachers and thrive.
It is a fantastic space to grow: our students have a gorgeous environment to learn within. Their own college area, a field to relax or play sport in, designated sport pitches, a photography studio, television studio, radio studio and a new gym.

Teachers with passion, drive and enthusiasm to give students the most informative and interesting lessons. Our aim is to give expert teaching, steps into the industry, share knowledge and give students the skills they need for adult life.

Additionally, we have a fantastic pastoral team to support our students’ needs and ensure their journey through education is on a safe and successful path.

Our Aim: Raising Achievement & Removing Barriers For All

If you want to study in a college with consistently excellent results, dynamic innovative teaching and exceptional pastoral care, The Oakes College Cambridge is the place for you.

Oakes College was formerly known as Netherhall Sixth Form Centre and as such, we have a long history of teaching A-level and vocational courses and supporting young people.

Oakes College is all about people; ambitious students who are determined to achieve; committed professionals who love teaching and a dedicated pastoral support team.  We take pride in knowing each student as an individual and our ethos of “Inspiring, Individual, Inclusive” is reflected in everything we do.

One of the things that makes us special is our small class sizes, far lower than other colleges/centres in the area. This means that you get to know your teachers really well.  Our students tell us this helps them to feel more supported and challenged to achieve their potential.

The breadth of expertise in our teaching staff allows us to offer a wide range of subjects and qualifications to best suit each individual learner.  Our seminar style lessons and excellent facilities offer an experience more likened to university and the world of work than a school.  All of this adds up to a great classroom experience.

We recognise that your sixth form years are important to you. Of course, you want to make great academic progress, but you will also want to experience a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, enriching your experience and increasing your future prospects.  We are here to help you each step of the way so that you leave us ready to embrace your future, be that a university course, the world of work or the confidence to take that gap year you’ve been promising yourself!  To prepare you, we facilitate work experience placements, provide professional careers advice, a range of external visitors and speakers and many chances to develop your personal skills and confidence.

Our energetic student council represents the student body.  They ensure there is a range of social opportunities for all and play an integral role within the college, highlighting the needs of students, making suggestions for improvements and coming up with all sorts of ideas for fund raising and trips.  The end of year ball is a particular highlight which is always well attended.

Oakes College is a great place to study, but do not take my word for it, attend our Open Evening and meet us in person; you are certain to receive a warm and friendly welcome from the college team, the teaching staff and our students.
