We are incredibly proud of our Maths magicians at Oakes.
Students from Year 12 and Year 13 took part in a Senior Maths challenge recently and conquered some very challenging questions. The challenge is made even harder when marks are subtracted for incorrect answers! Over 82,000 pupils from across the UK took part in this challenge with the top 10% receiving a gold certificate, the next 20% silver and the next 30% bronze.
A well done to all the students who participated in the challenge and a big congratulations to the following pupils who achieved various awards:
Best in Year 13 – Owen Aldis
Best in Year 12 – Beth Buchan and Bronze Award
Best in School and Gold Award: Owen Aldis
Owen also achieved marks for his entry in the Senior Kangaroo Round.
On the evening of Tuesday 4thDecember, 2018, two students from year 13 and two students from year 12 also participated in the Regional Final for the Maths Challenge, held at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge. The challenge involved different rounds designed to engage and enhance pupils’ mathematical thinking, communication and teamwork skills. A big well done to Owen Aldis, Pierce Morgan, Gemma Booth and Carys Clements, who did an excellent job representing Oakes College Cambridge in an extremely challenging competition, lasting over three hours.
