Mathematics

In the world of work, the importance of maths is unquestionable.  For example, it is the key to science and engineering; it is indispensable in commerce.

A-level Maths aims to improve your knowledge and understanding of maths and its uses in the real world.  Through the course, you will develop your skills to reason logically, comprehend mathematical arguments and recognise how different situations can be represented mathematically.

Further Maths

Mathematical ability is a very valuable asset – if you have some, make the most of it!  Maths is so important that it is the only subject with a second A-level, extending the standard A-level in both breadth and depth.

Studying Further Maths will provide a stimulating experience and develop areas of the brain untouched by other subjects. It will also mean that you probably end up earning more than the rest of us!

Over the two years, you will study a mixture of Pure and Applied Maths topics.  At the end of the course you will sit four exams each worth 25%. Two are Pure Maths modules and the other two are Applied modules.

Further Maths is taught as a twilight session at Oakes College and is an addition to the three A-levels you opt to enrol in.  The lessons are held twice a week, relying on independent study time to practice the concepts covered in lessons.
