Performing Arts

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate

 

The Performing Arts course is open to all eager and enthusiastic makers of live performances.  Although you may not have studied GCSE Drama or Dance, it is important that you show a willingness to engage in new topics and have a passion for performance.  This course is ideally suited for students who enjoy live performance but may not wish to pursue it further at University, or for those students who wish to go on and complete a Foundation Course at Drama Centres.

Assessment:
This course comprises of at least 4 units of work, one of  which is optional.  We are currently gathering feedback from our student cohorts, to enable Oakes College to provide you with a tailored course that will allow you to study and achieve in the areas of performing Arts in which you excel.

Components 1 to 3 are performance based, with one of the performances being externally examined by a visiting moderator.  The components typically include a majority Theatre/Drama task, but may include any number of further performance skills.

Component 4 is typically a dance component, in which you will study then demonstrate in performance conditions, a type/style of dance.

As part of the Expressive Arts Faculty, you will be involved in a number of theatre and dance performances throughout the year.  This will include our annual College Musical, Arts Festival and Shakespeare Festival.  There is an opportunity for all students to visit live performances and attend workshops, with established professional performers.

The Performing Arts at Oakes College is a vital and vibrant part of the community and many students find it an ideal environment to develop or discover skills.

Students looking to study this course should ideally have a GCSE in Drama and have some dance experience.  However, dedication and commitment to live performances is paramount in any decision.

This course is not suitable for selection alongside A-level Drama, as the workload for any individual would be too much.

Entry Requirements:
7 Higher Grades:

  • Grade 4 (or above) for English and Maths
  • Grade 4 (or above) for other GCSE subjects
  • 1 BTEC (or equivalent) at Merit (or above) may be included within the 7 grades
