What is EPQ?

The Extended Project Qualification is an A-Level standard stand alone Level 3 qualification that is accredited by AQA.

An independent research project where you can produce either:

  • A written report
  • An artefact
  • A performance
  • A prototype or model
  • A computer program
  • A recording of a creative/performing arts project

You complete this project independently, with the support of your supervisor.

How is EPQ different to other subjects?

  • You chose what to study
  • You have to conduct independent research and learning
  • You have to plan, deliver and present your work

Why do EPQ?

  • Chance to explore an area of interest
  • Chance to develop skills that will help with university study
  • UCAS points equal to 40% of an A-Level

What does EPQ require?

You need to:

  • Choose a topic and identify clear aims and objectives
  • Plan, research and carry out a project
  • Attend regular meetings with your supervisor
  • Provide evidence at all stages of your project through an online log
  • Write a written report of between 1000 and 5000 words (dependent upon your project)
  • Carry out a presentation to a non-specialist audience
  • Reflect on what you have learnt from the process

Examples of Past Projects:

  • Writing the first season of a fantasy series
  • Designing the ideal drill for football coaching
  • How did the 2010 war affect education in Gaza?

“But, what should I do it on?”

Something that interests you and/or supports you in pursuing future opportunities.
