A-Level English Language & Literature

This course gives you the opportunity to develop as a reflective reader and writer, exploring the relationship between language and literature, and developing writing for a range of audiences and purposes.

You will study a post-1900 drama text, a play by Shakespeare, a novel, some non-fiction and some poetry.  You will also develop your creative writing skills in a specific genre of your choice, using your reading to help improve your writing.

Assessment:

Exam Board: Eduqas

80% examination, 20% non-examined assessment

  • Poetry and prose fiction
  • Shakespeare and post-1900 drama
  • Non-literary texts (studied and unseen)
  • Critical and creative genre study (coursework)

Entry Requirements:

7 Higher Grades:

  • Grade 6 (or above) for English Language and English Literature
  • Grade 4 (or above) for Maths
  • Grade 4/C (or above) for other GCSE subjects
  • 1 BTEC (or equivalent) at Merit or above may be included within the 7 grades
